Online ticket sellers like StubHub, SeatGeek, and VividSeats often advertise low-priced tickets to music, sporting, and other live entertainment events—only to hit purchasers with an exorbitant fee right as they make their purchase. The amounts of these fees are often unpredictable and arbitrary, and sometimes the specific amount of fees charged is hidden in a separate link. Sellers often disguise the profit-generating purpose of these fees by labeling them as “service fees,” or some other similar name, to imply that the fees are simply reimbursing the seller for providing a service.
