Partner Jonathan Tycko Testifies on the Rental Housing Act before Committee on Consumer & Regulatory Affairs
On November 21, 2005 Jonathan Tycko testified on the issue of reform of Section 501(f) of the Rental Housing Act of the District of Columbia. Intended in part to protect District renters from inhospitable living conditions, exorbitant rent prices, and unlawful evictions, the Rental Housing Act has become the subject of heated debate and litigation in recent years. This particular provision of District of Columbia law recently has been abused by landlords who are seeking to evict low-income tenants from buildings in order to turn the buildings into more expensive rental properties or condominiums.
