During her fellowship, Sophia Goren divided her time between working for the firm and working at the National Women’s Law Center. At the firm, Sophia gained substantive litigation experience working on a variety of public interest matters. With the mentorship of the firm’s associates and partners, Sophia investigated cases, developed case strategies, took a deposition, and argued a motion. In one of her cases, Sophia was involved in successfully negotiating a settlement resulting in the State of Delaware changing their Medicaid policy, which had previously denied access to life-saving Hepatitis C medication.
Sophia also spent two months at the National Women’s Law Center, where she gained invaluable experience developing policy to promote the rights of girls and girls of color. At NWLC, she prepared testimony for a hearing on the Hill regarding educational funding inequities, drafted comments in response to numerous proposed regulations, and developed materials to raise awareness about Title IX and sexual assault on campuses.
