Consumers File Class Action Against Walmart Alleging Brand’s “Hotel Style” Sheets are Deceptively Labeled

August 10, 2023. Consumers are demanding justice after Walmart allegedly deceptively labeled its “Hotel Style” sheets. A class action lawsuit was filed on August 10th in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois against Walmart for violating the Illinois Consumer Fraud Act and the Deceptive Business Practices Act.

Andrea Gold and Leora Friedman of Tycko & Zavareei LLP and Frank Bartela and Nicole Fiorelli of Dworken & Bernstein are representing the plaintiffs.

The plaintiffs allege that Walmart knowingly inflated the thread count of its “Hotel Style” sheets and represented that the sheets had an 800 thread count when in reality, they had far less, causing consumers to pay more for a product that is not high quality as advertised. The plaintiffs claim that Walmart’s deceptive labeling of its sheets violates FTC guidelines and industry standards. They further allege that if consumers had known the true thread count of the sheets, they would not have purchased them or would have paid a lower price. Consumers seek compensatory damages and trial by jury.

The case is Thomas et al. v. Walmart Inc. et al., case no.: 1:23-cv-05315 in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
