Tycko & Zavareei LLP is proud to announce that Sabita J. Soneji has been promoted to Equity Partner. A graduate of the University of Houston, summa cum laude, and Georgetown University Law Center, magna cum laude, Ms. Soneji has built a career defined by impact and integrity. She brings decades of experience both at federal government and in private practice fighting unfair, fraudulent, and illegal practices that harm consumers. Her work earned national recognition in 2015 when she received the Attorney General’s Award for Exceptional Service for her tremendous effort and success defending the Affordable Care Act.

Ms. Soneji’s career began with a clerkship for the Honorable Gladys Kessler on the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, where she assisted the judge in overseeing landmark civil RICO trial against the tobacco industry. She later served as Senior Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice, leading civil and criminal prosecutions of financial fraud in the wake of the 2008 recession and other impact litigation, as well as defending critical federal programs.

Hassan Zavareei remarked, “I am so proud to have Sabita join us as an equity partner. She is an incredible lawyer and a leader in both the class action and privacy bars. Her presence as an owner further strengthens the foundation of TZ.”

Now Chair of the firm’s Privacy and Data Breach Group, Ms. Soneji is recognized as one of the most respected data privacy attorneys in the United States; she was awarded the California Legal Award for Distinguished Leaders (2024), selected as one of Lawdragon’s 500 Leading Consumer Lawyers in America for her accomplishments in privacy litigation (2025), nominated for the National Law Journal’s Elite Trial Lawyer’s Award in Data Privacy (2025), and recently elected to the American Law Institute (ALI). Ms. Soneji has successfully led and resolved numerous class actions and multidistrict litigations such as the multi-district litigation against Juul and Altria for their marketing of addictive nicotine products to youth, and numerous data privacy class actions against massive corporations, including securing  a $37.5 million settlement against Meta in 2024 for tracking users’ location without their consent.

In addition to her legal practice, Ms. Soneji serves as an adjunct professor at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, where she shares her expertise in Consumer Law, Consumer Protection, Privacy, and Cybersecurity with future lawyers. This drive to educate the next generation is also clear at TZ where she is an invaluable mentor to staff and attorneys.

Ms. Soneji has been integral to the firm’s success, and an absolute joy to work alongside. The entire team at TZ is excited to see her continued leadership as an equity partner.
