October 6, 2023. Tycko & Zavareei LLP (TZ) proudly announces the addition of two outstanding attorneys to the firm as part of its prestigious Public Interest Fellowship program. Shilpa Sadhasivam joins the Washington, D.C. office, while Em Feder Cooper will be based in the Oakland, California office. These young attorneys bring a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to public interest work to TZ.
Shilpa Sadhasivam is a graduate of Harvard Law School, where she honed her legal skills as a student attorney at the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau. During her time there, she passionately represented workers facing wage theft and workplace retaliation, demonstrating a strong dedication to workers’ rights. In addition to her academic pursuits, Shilpa gained invaluable experience during her summers, working with plaintiffs’ firms on a wide range of cases, from civil rights to securities litigation.
Em Feder Cooper, a graduate of the New York University School of Law, has an impressive background in public interest work. She began her career by contributing to reproductive justice legislative efforts at the New York City Council Women’s Caucus. Throughout law school, Em worked tirelessly with Sanctuary for Families, assisting women in obtaining uncontested divorces and temporary restraining orders. She also served as a Law Clerk at the Equal Rights Advocates, where she focused on Title IX matters and provided essential support to sexual assault survivors preparing for their hearings. Em’s dedication extended further as a Student Advocate at New York Legal Aid Group’s Pro Se Clinic at the Southern District of New York courthouse, where she utilized her proficiency in Spanish to serve a diverse range of clients.
TZ’s Public Interest Fellowship program, established in 2012, continues to be a hallmark of the firm’s commitment to nurturing and promoting the next generation of public interest attorneys. The program offers recent law school graduates a unique opportunity to work alongside seasoned litigators at TZ for over a year and also gain hands-on experience through a three-month placement with a local public interest non-profit organization.
