Travelers United Inc., represented by consumer advocacy law firm Tycko & Zavareei LLP, is taking on Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. in a lawsuit alleging the hotel chain is deceiving customers with hidden fees. The lawsuit, filed in D.C. Superior Court and later removed to D.C. federal court, claims that Hilton does not disclose the full costs of its hotel rooms upfront, luring customers in with lower rates and then applying fees in excess of $35 per day at the end of the booking process.
Travelers United is a nonprofit organization focused on consumer protection in travel. TZ represents the nonprofit in similar lawsuits against Hyatt and Sonesta.
The lawsuit against Hilton seeks to represent all customers who have been charged the hidden fees by Hilton since July 2017. Travelers United is asking the court to order Hilton to stop the deceptive practices and to pay the greater of treble damages or $1,500 per violation, per D.C. consumer protection law. The TZ attorneys representing plaintiffs are Partner Hassan Zavareei, Of Counsels Peter Silva and Wesley M. Griffith, and Associate Leora Friedman.
The case is Travelers United Inc. v. Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. et al., Case No.: 1:23-cv-03584, in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
